Waiting for Identity
2020
This is an intervention with the aim of reviving a degraded neighborhood, especially to give hope to young people, to instill the desire to make new and beautiful things, not yet identified, happen. This installation tells us other things will happen in time, when the pandemic emergency will be overcome and the public structures will have returned to normality. It is made of colours that move with the wind and have the shape of a flag, such as the flags of all nations in the world. The drape is sustained by a pole in its narrow side, while the wider side is moved by the wind. Observers will be drawn to associate the colours and drawings to a particular country but they will soon find out that each of the flags cannot be associated to any country, if not a country not yet identified. They are thus expressions culturally unknown that can be appreciated by the fugitive gaze of a passing individual.
Work by Edoardo Malagigi and Zoya Shokoohi.
