“Cupola”, the work of Edoardo Malagigi, is a large scale reproduction of the coffee machine designed by the architect Aldo Rossi in 1985 for Alessi. It is part of the concepts of the initiative Restoration, Innovation and Sustainability, becoming its logo. This is a work of conversion, since it is completely made up of recycled materials, old carton boxes and old newspapers. It is built with materials coming from wood and trees and covered by cellulose obtained with the grinding of newspapers. The dome is composed of 36 wedges that sustain it and give it solidity. The coffee machine is modified in its dimensions by about 3 metres and, freed from its use, it is given new life and a new opportunity. This intervention becomes clear in its representation of the reality in which we live and the artist is more interested in connecting directly with the great issues of this era, rather than leaving a personal sign. The coffee machine has been exposed in the panoramic terrace of Stamba during the days of the Convention, along with the exhibition of architectural projects from all of Italy, North to South. Later, it was moved to the courtyard of Fabrika, ready to challenge the climatic variables and offer an opportunity of reflection and awareness.
